His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III
President of the Philippines
To the National Livelihood Development Corporation
On the occasion of their 7th Sustainable Income for People in the
Agrarian Grassroots (SIPAG) Awards
[September 28, 2012]
My warmest greetings to the National Livelihood Development Corporation, as you hold the 7th Sustainable Income for People in the Agrarian Grassroots (SIPAG) Awards.
Rural development is a crucial component of our goal of inclusive growth and food security. Our country’s primary food producers—from farmers, to animal raisers, to fishermen—are located in the countryside. Despite their enormous contributions to our economy and our society, poverty remains a challenge among our nation’s rural communities, alongside hunger incidence in our very food baskets. To correct these glaring inequalities, we in government are pursuing a comprehensive program to strengthen our agricultural industry and advance the welfare of the people in this sector. In this pursuit, the NLDC is working with microfinance institutions and individual microentrepreneurs to infuse much needed knowledge and capital to spur growth in the countryside.
These awards recognize the individuals and institutions whose efforts are crucial to the empowerment of our agrarian sector. We thank you for your solidarity with our agenda of positive change. Let us continue to work hand-in-hand, demonstrating excellence, passion, and integrity in our endeavors, as we steer our country towards a stable and progressive future.
(Sgd.) BENIGNO S. AQUINO III
