NLDC 2015 Luzon Business Forum in Subic Tackles Changing Ways of MFIs

This year's NLDC Business Forum for partner MFIs in Luzon centered on the theme, "Changing ways of MFIs, changing lives of End-clients." In a well-attended event at the Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel, executives and high ranking officers of NLDC-accredited MFIs converged on February 11 to 13, 2015, to listen and interact with resource persons on topics ranging from 2015 economic prospects, microfinance directions, business platform for agricultural value chain finance, practical approach in agroenterprise development. and the regulatory policies from the Securities and Exchange Commission.

To add "flavor" to the highly-spirited discussions on the above topics, the NLDC brought one of the most sought-after speaker on Filipino values and advocate for a "great Philippines" in the person of Atty. Alexander Lacson. He moved the participants to continue doing right even in small things as this manifests being good Filipinos. He pointed out that aside from education, Filipinos nowadays need to embrace integrity and honesty in every role we play either at workplace, in the community and at home. He enjoined everyone to love once more our country and patronize the products and tourist destinations that we locally have to make our country great again.

During the 3-day forum, the participating MFIs were challenged to remain mindful of the welfare and benefits to end-clients of whatever innovations made at the institution level. Changes at the processes and products should always lead to improvements in the services being offered to the enterprising borrowers.

At the end of the forum, participants acknowledged that there remains great potential for the rural finance industry especially for agricultural value chain finance. NLDC emphasized that the corporation will be supporting initiatives of MFIs to help small farmers mitigate the risks in their agroenterprises.
