NLDC reaches out a hand to Partner MFIs in Visayas

The National Livelihood Development Corporation reaches out a helping hand to its partner conduits in Visayas, whose staff and end-clients were greatly affected by the recent calamities that devastated the country. It has created a Calamity Fund and allocated an initial Php5 Million worth of assistance for the victims of earthquake in Bohol and super typhoon Yolanda which hit the Visayas.

Aside from providing financial assistance to 2 partner conduits directly hit by the Bohol earthquake last October 15, NLDC created a "Task Force Yolanda" composed of 7 NLDC employees headed by its President, Gondelina Amata, who were delpoyed to the Visayas to facilitate the relief operation for the partner conduits affected by the super typhoon.

Last November 16-19, the team coordinated with Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative which agreed to have their office be NLDC's Relief Operations Hub during the repacking of goods. The team transported 3,000 bags of relief goods worth Php500 each containing rice, cans of tuna, sardines, and corned beef, along with noodles, and bottles of mineral water to Ormoc where 8 partners received the goods for distribution to therir end-borrowers. The agency also provided financial assistance to 8 other MFIs which have created their own relief operation centers for immediate purchase of relief goods to be distributed to their clients affected by the typhoon.

On an individual basis, NLDC staff were encouraged to do their share by putting up bulk orders of the "Tulong na, Tabang na, Tayo na" t-shirts for themselves and their families as the proceeds of the shirts will directly go to the typhoon Yolanda victims.

Small in volumes as it seems, these activities were NLDC's ways of showing that its clients are never alone and that NLDC will always be there to help them in good times and in bad.
