Background

Industriousness, or perhaps the more encompassing word industry, the willingness to embrace hard work, perseverance, and challenges to improve one’s station in life, is the Filipino trait that the Sustainable Income for People in Agrarian Grassroots (SIPAG) Awards seeks to promote and recognize.

Started in 2006, these Awards are given annually by the National Livelihood Development Corporation to encourage and promote as best practices the achievements of NLDC partner Microfinance Institutions and Microentrepreneurs.

The program partner category is for NLDC partner institutions that have shown remarkable performance in extending credit, financial advice, and other technical support to microenterprises. On the other hand, the microentrepreneur category highlights the successes of microentrepreneurs who have been able to rise above poverty levels through the use of NLDC funds and through sheer determination and discipline.
